AWK... Yes, this "little language" has been out for decades (since 1977). The original book from the language authors was a great combination of simplicity and broad coverage of examples. It landed (1980's) just when I needed it as a developer. I used it for years to prototype simple programs before building in "C" or Java. Brian Kernighan has been helping to "maintain" the "true" version for years and had the original "troff" version of the book. Now they are releasing a second edition in early October. I'm looking forward to the "The AWK Programming Language - Second Edition (Addison-Wesley Professional Computing Series)" when Amazon expects ship it in early October.
